A Goat for a Vote

The recent elections in Kenya have left many of its citizens relieved. Although not free of suspicions of fraud, the 2013 elections went off in relative calm compared to the large-scale outbreaks of violence four years ago. At Majaoni Secondary School, the next generation of Kenyan voters learns about democracy. It is the annual school elections, and three students are competing for the prestigious position of school president. It is the endless enthusiasm and motivation of these three candidates that predicts a fierce election battle.

Lively, good for discussion, hopeful. Because if these people think about the principles of democracy now, in adult life they will be able to make a conscious choice based on human rights. It’s important for shaping political awareness among teenagers who are going to participate in elections themselves in just a few years.
