The Rug

Events depicted by the director occur in Kharkiv. This story tells about an ordinary man whose life changes in one day without turning back. The director warns: the film is not for the faint-hearted. Watch the film and keep in mind: they’re close! Their hunt has begun. Maybe they’re hunting you, possibly your relatives are in danger. The film is based on actual events.

Director

Andriy Rokhanskyi

Andriy Rokhanskyi was born in 1964; a lawyer and director of Institute for Legal Research and Strategies non-governmental organization. From 2007 he works for non-governmental organizations that provide free legal aid. He also participates in video-advocacy projects focused on the patients deviance of rights problems and problems of torture prevention of people detained by policemen. Both of his projects have been presented in Docudays UA non-competition programs. The first project entitled You’re Right consisted of the stories of three patients whose rights have been violated in medical facilities. The second one, The Rug, or The Way I Tore Cop’s Chevron, from the first person perspective tells the story of a man who suffered torture in police for the purpose of getting a confession for the crime he didn’t commit.

 

Andriy improved his video-advocacy knowledge during trainings at Witness international organization. The projects were executed with financial support from International Renaissance Foundation.
